Antique Barber & Son Birmingham Walnut Carved Dining Hall Chair Brass Castors

Antique carved hardwood dining chair by Barber & Son, Colemore Row, Birmingham, retaining its original ivorine maker's label to the underside.

Dating to circa 1890–1910, this is a well-made late Victorian English example by a respected Birmingham manufacturer. The chair features a richly carved crest rail with stylised animal head and foliate detailing, fluted uprights and turned front legs united by stretchers.

Raised on turned front legs with original brass cup castors and hardwood wheels.

This is a used antique item with wear consistent with over a century of use, including:

• A couple of historic, inactive woodworm holes (treated as a precautionary measure, no sign of active infestation)

• Back panel upholstery in fair vintage condition with age-related wear

• Seat fabric shows heavier wear and would benefit from recovering

• General surface marks, minor scuffs and age-related wear throughout

The seat appears to retain traditional upholstery materials beneath the fabric (likely horsehair), producing the firm feel typical of late 19th-century construction.
