A characterful Victorian mahogany shield back chair, featuring the elegant shield-shaped back splat design synonymous with late 18th and 19th century British furniture making – a style popularised by George Hepplewhite. A distinctive personal touch is the brass monogram or initials plate, adding a unique provenance to this piece. Despite its repairs, this remains a striking antique chair with considerable decorative appeal.

Condition & Repair Notes

The seat appears to have been glued on at some point
One back leg shows evidence of having been previously snapped and reattached
The other back leg also has a repair
A piece of wood has been added under the seat, likely as a structural reinforcement
A repair is also visible on the lower section of the backrest
General wear, marks, and patina consistent with age throughout
