Antique Victorian Brass Gothic Trivet Pedestal Stand - Gothic Tracery - No.81 Patent 26717 - Used
Used. Antique — pre-owned, aged piece. Condition as shown in images — please refer to all photos before purchasing. Condition notes including flaws are detailed below.
A striking Victorian / Edwardian brass trivet pedestal stand in the Gothic Revival style, bearing the impressed registration marks No.81 and Patent 26717 — consistent with a late 19th-century British registered design. This style of brass pedestal stand was used as a trivet (to elevate hot pots or kettles from a surface), a small display stand, or a decorative plant stand, and was a popular domestic accessory during the Victorian and Edwardian periods.
The piece features a square pierced brass top platform with a central sunburst/wheel-spoke pierced design, framed by a Gothic tracery scalloped skirt border with repeating trefoil and quatrefoil pierced motifs — highly characteristic of the Gothic Revival decorative style popularised in the mid-to-late Victorian era. The top platform sits on a turned baluster brass stem with knop detailing, rising from a stepped circular domed weighted base.
Dimensions (photo-verified):
- Height: 25cm
- Width (top platform): 20cm
Condition (photo-verified):
- Used — antique, aged piece in as-found condition
- Overall heavy tarnish across the entire piece — requires a good brass polish to restore shine, as shown in photos
- Verdigris (blue-green patina) present on the base and lower stem — visible in photos; consistent with genuine aged brass oxidation, treatable with brass cleaner
- Square top platform is warped/bent — the pierced top does not lie fully flat; at least one corner is visibly lifted and the scalloped skirt border shows distortion in areas, as clearly visible in photos; the piece will benefit from careful straightening
- No cracks, fractures or missing sections visible to the main structure — distortion appears to be bending rather than breakage
- Turned stem and base structurally intact
- Sold as found — a restoration project piece with significant decorative potential once cleaned and straightened
