Antique Victorian / Edwardian Large Canvas Dome Top Travelling Trunk - Stencilled Initials, Maker's Badge, Prop
Used / Pre-owned — antique used condition throughout, heavily worn and showing significant age. Condition is as shown in images — please refer to all photos before purchasing.
A large antique dome-top (camelback) canvas travelling trunk, consistent with late Victorian to Edwardian manufacture (c.1880s–1910s). Dark brown canvas covering over a wooden frame with iron/steel studding throughout, wooden and metal banding strips to the sides and rear, and four small metal dome feet at the corners. A characterful piece with genuine provenance details and substantial presence — ideal as a period interior prop, film or TV set dressing, theatre prop, or as a display piece for a vintage or antique interior.
Notable features (photo-verified):
- Stencilled owner initials: The lid top bears large painted stencilled initials “M.E.G.” and “D.G.B.” — classic Victorian/Edwardian owner identification, adding genuine provenance character
- Triangular maker’s badge: A triangular brass/gilt badge is riveted to the canvas, depicting a sailing ship and sea creature — heavily aged with verdigris patina, characteristic of period trunk makers or shipping companies
- Iron clasp latches: Two clasp latches to the front and two to the rear, all present
- Metal dome feet: Four small metal dome/ball feet at the base corners, all present
Known condition issues (photo-verified):
- Lid collapsed/caved: The dome top has significantly caved inward — the lid profile is visibly sunken and distorted; this is a structural issue clearly visible in photos
- Side handle damaged: One side leather handle is completely cracked, dried and broken apart — the leather has split into pieces though the strap hardware remains attached
- Front handle deteriorated: The front leather handle/strap is heavily cracked and dried with significant leather loss, though still attached
- Canvas wear to rear: Heavy abrasion and canvas loss to the rear face, with areas worn through to the wooden substrate beneath, particularly along the banding strips
- General wear throughout: Scuffs, scratches, and age patina across all surfaces consistent with extensive period use
- Interior not photographed: Interior condition unknown
What is included: trunk only, as shown in photos. No key, no contents.
